An intervention that terraces a steep site instead of fighting it, reinterpreting the town’s timber architecture.
Instead of fighting a steep site, the project embraces and terraces the topography. The region’s traditional timber upper-storey architecture is reinterpreted in a modern language that respects the historic fabric.
The slope becomes an opportunity for open social spaces such as an “Amphi Square”. Seemingly separate volumes are linked by sheltered transparent passages; a car park buried in the slope and green roofs tie the scheme into the landscape.
